    Flipped classrooms are a method of instruction and form of blended learning. This model gets its name from the way it “flips” the traditional classroom model. Using this method, students watch videos or listen to lectures at home. When they come to class meetings, instructors facilitate group work and other activities that would typically. A flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning that reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom. It moves activities, including those that may have traditionally been considered homework, into the classroom.

    While there are emerging a number of definitions and designs referred to as “the flipped classroom” the main intentions of this teaching model are to reverse the traditional presentation methods of classic teaching away from what teachers are saying to concentrating on how students are learning and retaining knowledge and information. To compliment our existing digital learning resources, we have developed brand new flipped classroom lesson plans. This method of teaching allows students to learn new content by watching a video in their own time. Students build their knowledge, attitudes and values by themselves, freeing up class time for hands-on learning.

    Good flipped instruction should include a full cycle in which new ideas are discussed in the classroom before students are asked to consume related digital content.
